No need to press panic button, says Rautman
SOCCER – Despite the humiliating 2-1 loss to Shiselweni Super League side Amagagasi on Saturday, Mbabane Swallows’ coach Walter ‘Mr Fixit’ Rautman has mentioned that there is no need to press the panic button ahead of their Orange CAF Champions League clash against Supersport United.
Swallows meet the South African Premier League champions at the Somhlolo Stadium this weekend.
Speaking after seeing his charges huff and puff in front of raging Amagagasi, Rautman mentioned that they were not worried at all by the defeat, but would give their supporters what they are expecting from the upcoming match which is nothing but a must-win.
He assured that he is currently happy with the work that has been put into the team and is content with the current squad. He attributed the loss to the state of the pitch, which he described as very pathetic and a disgrace to Swazi football.
“The team has definitely improved and I can invite the supporters to come and watch us play well against Supersport on Sunday.
“The loss was due to the state of the pitch, which was very pathetic and a disgrace to Swazi football. However, I was happy with the work-rate put up by the players,” he said.
The team’s head-coach Alou Badara Konate pointed out that they were surprised by the state of the pitch as they were preparing for the Orange CAF Champions League and were not used to such a pitch, which he said was not at all good to play on.
“Even FIFA cannot approve such a venue, which is in such condition. Our focus was not on this match as we are very much concentrated on the CAF match this weekend and I tried to rest some of my players,” he said.
