SADC SQAM officials to arrive Friday
Standards authorities from the rest of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will arrive in the country this Friday to attend SADC’s Standards, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology (SQAM) meetings.
The meetings, said SWASA’s Marketing Officer Ricardo Kruger, are expected to start on Sunday and on the same day next week. SWASA will host the meetings at the Royal Swazi Sun Convention Centre.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Jabulile Mashwma encouraged all stakeholders to attend the Monday session, which shall be open to all. She said SQAM would be addressing its role in issues of consumer protection and food security.

“We hope for lots of participation from local stakeholders as standards affect a variety of spheres once implemented. The objective of having standards in place is to grow local business, and in the process ensure that the consumer is well protected,” she said.
She further urged all producing industries to attend Monday’s workshop and share ideas on how to improve consumer protection in the production process.
“Laboratories and business people will learn a lot from attending this workshop,” she said.
On another note, Mashwma pointed out that she hoped the meetings will come out with tangible agreements. Meanwhile, Swaziland hosts the SQAM meetings on second opportunity after its failure to do so last year.
