Man kills mkhulu 4 days after release from Psychiatric Centre

The community of Nyakeni is still reeling in shock following the gruesome killing of an elderly community member, Amos Maziya, who was hacked to dead with a bush knife last Sunday.
He was attacked by a man recently released from the Psychiatric Centre at Two Sticks in Manzini. The incident, which occurred as early as 7am on Sunday morning, is said to have been sparked by an argument over why the deceased had ploughed his maize fields.
The assailant, Frank Mbhu Hlophe, had recently returned home after a lengthily stay at the psychiatric centre.
It is said he had only been released last Wednesday and the incident occurred four days later. Armed with a bush knife, he is said to have attacked Maziya (69) and asked him who gave him permission to plough his maize fields.
He is alleged to have said just because he was away sick the deceased had then used that opportunity to plough his land. He then proceeded to hack Maziya all over his head and body.
Thokozani, a young boy, who initially tried to stop Hlophe from hurting his grandfather ran back home to call for help.
By the time members of the deceased family reached the two, Maziya was lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to RFM hospital and as his condition became critical he was transferred to the Mbabane Government Hospital, where he died whilst receiving treatment.
Hlophe was also beaten to a pulp by angry members of the Maziya family and is currently admitted at the RFM hospital.
The incident has caused bad blood between the two families as some have questioned why Hlophe was released from the psychiatric centre if he was still unstable. He was found at the hospital cracking jokes and talking loudly with one of his legs in a cast, seemingly oblivious of the seriousness of the matter.
Asked about the matter, he nonchalantly pointed at his legs and stated that he was also beaten up by the deceased person.  “Look at my legs, he also hurt me, we were fighting,” Hlophe said.
Police spokesperson Wendy Hleta confirmed the matter and said the alleged killer was still admitted at the RFM Hospital as he was also badly beaten up by the deceased’s family. She lamented the fact that the family had not kept a close watch over Hlophe, who has a well documented history of mental disability as well as being known to be very violent.
Hleta mentioned that once the suspect has been declared fit, he would be brought before court.
