‘Taribo’ files proposal to SA’s Jomo Cosmos
SOCCER – MBABANE Swallows’ top striker Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe has filed a counter proposal on the contract offered to him by South Africa’s Premiership side Jomo Cosmos.
The dreadlocked striker, who is expected to sign a three-year contract with Cosmos this week, is apparently not happy with some clauses in the contract given to him by Cosmos, one of which is the E25 000 monthly salary.
Apparently, the contract outlines that the player would earn the E25 000 monthly salary for the duration of his contract, with no indications on whether or not this would be reviewed during this period, based on his performance.
“According to the contract, it appears like ‘Taribo’ would earn the same amount for the three years of his stay with Cosmos and this is clearly not right, in professional terms. The player wants Cosmos to review this clause and put it such that it would state that his salary would be reviewed based on his performance per season.
“At least, that would motivate him to play to his best in every game for Cosmos. Another concern in the contract is the fact that Cosmos have put a clause in it which gives them the powers to renew the player’s contract when it elapses.
“Professionally, such should be the decision of the player, not Cosmos,” the player’s brother, Mabandla explained to this newspaper yesterday.
Mabandla, however, admitted that these were minor glitches and predicted that the player would officially be signing for Cosmos anytime.
“We have indicated those two main concerns, which we hope Cosmos would address because all we want is what’s best for the player.
“As soon as that has been settled, the boy will sign on the dotted line without any problem. Actually, he (Taribo) is happy with the contract offered to him by Cosmos, save for those two clauses,” Bhembe pointed out.
The player returned to the country on Sunday after playing for Cosmos in a pre-season tournament hosted by Wits University on Saturday in Johannesburg, where he is said to have done well.
“Yes, the boy was in the country to collect some of his belongings and he returned to Johannesburg today (yesterday) to join Cosmos’ afternoon training session. Honestly speaking, I do not see anything hampering his move to Cosmos now,” Bhembe stated.
Efforts to trace comment from the player failed at the time of compiling this report last night.
