PEPFAR gives computers to the Ministry of Health
UNITED States Presidency Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has presented the Ministry of Health with eight computers.
This is part of the programme of assistance towards fighting HIV and AIDS which government would receive from this organisation in the next five years. The donation took place yesterday at the Mountain Inn and the computers were presented by the director of the centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) Dr. George Bicego, who said the computers would enhance the country to generate strategic information on HIV and AIDS programmes. He said the computers would be distributed evenly to the regions to be used by clinic supervisors.
Minister of Health Benedict Xaba thanked PEPFAR for the donation and explained that the clinic supervisors used gadgets called personal digital assistants (PDAs), which had been loaded with supervisory tool.
He said the full use of the supervisory tool required it to be transferred from the PDA into a computer where a complete analytical report was compiled.
“To be able to carry out this task, clinic supervisors need computers as they act as transmitters of data but they are unable to produce electronic supervisory analytical reports due to lack of computers,” he said.
He said through the support of Enhanced Strategic Information (ESI), a PEPFAR funded project that provides technical and financial support, clinic supervisors were now going to generate such reports.
He said the donation demonstrated the support of the United States Government in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Swaziland.
