Isaac brings in Lunyazi
A new dawn has arrived for the country’s police and public as newly appointed commissioner Isaac Magagula has unveiled the ‘lightning speed’ or lunyazi approach to doing things.
Lunyazi will be the new way of doing things in the force, in a bid to combat crime and to speedily address the cases brought to the police by aggrieved members of the public.
Opening a new chapter on police operations, Magagula beckoned that at all times, all police would be expected to adhere to the founding principles of lunyazi which are; speed or urgency, professionalism, empathy and civility.
Addressing media at the police headquarters yesterday, Magagula said the lunyazi ethic, like the name, required that police should respond with speed to all distress calls and to exhibit urgency in handling cases or investigations.
Furthermore, he encouraged all police to treat clients with empathy and courtesy and to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the execution of their duties.
Adding, he said: “we envisage that the lunyazi method of operation will not only contribute in improving service delivery, but will also ensure that when we say we want people to go about their lives, and go to sleep at
Deputy commissioners, directors to sign yearly performance contracts
POLICE deputy commissioners, Khisimusi Ndlovu and Sipho Dlamini, as well as the six directors of the strategic command structures at the police service and those in high echelons of power will now sign annual performance contracts.
Commissioner of police Isaac Magagula communicated the imminent development at a press conference yesterday.
“As the police force, we truly want to make a difference. The performance contracts are just about one way to ensure that everyone is at par with the lunyazi mode of operation.”
He said like all government functionaries, the police service is at throes of implementing the performance targeting programme, and gave an indication that by far, things are still on track as police are achieving the set targets. The commissioner himself signed a performance target with government, and he insists that the signing of contracts will be cascaded down to the strategic command positions.
No ‘rotten potato’ in the police service please
WHILST advocating for an integrated approach and zero tolerance to crime, the new police force administration has taken a stance against ‘rotten potato’ at police service.
The police commissioner has made it clear that rotten potato elements within the ranks of the force will not be tolerated.
On his appointment, and the two deputies Magagula said: “we wish to assure the Ingwenyama and the nation at large that we will work hard to prove worthy of the confidence bestow on us, and shall bravely face the challenges that lie ahead.”
