Senator Bhutana condemns violent public reaction

SENATOR Bhutana Dlamini has condemned violent public reaction when members of the Royal Swaziland Police Service exercise their duty within communities.
Addressing a strong gathering of community police during a closing ceremony of a three-day- community policing training course, the senator observed that such behaviour showed that a larger section of our society still lacked capacity to appreciate the importance of police responsibilities within societies.
He thanked Police Commissioner Isaac Magagula for organising the workshop for the community police at Nkhaba. He said it would help strengthen the already existing partnership between community police and state police, and adding that he hoped the spirit of mutual understanding between the two parties would also be embraced by the larger Swazi communities.
He assured the commissioner of his support of the proposed Prevention Bill which seeks to regulate operational activities of community police as well as recognising them as an arm of the state police. The senator stressed that the Bill was important because it would also address the issue of compensation of community police. He also asked the commissioner to continue working hard in improving the welfare of state police to encourage them to give quality service to the public and country at large. He also thanked Senator Robert Zwane for his undying support of community police activities. The senator also observed that the rift that existed between the community police and state police had since died out. He then donated five cellphones and 25 uniform trousers to the community police under Nkhaba Inkhundla. “I hope this donation will help you improve in your community service delivery. The level of criminal activities have grown and it is important that we as responsible citizens join hands to fight the growing scourge of criminal activity threatening the existence and growth of our societies,’’ he said.
The occasion held at Nkhaba Inkhundla was attended by the police commissioner and senior police officers under the Hhohho region.
