E350 000 FOR U-20 COSAFA TRIP
SOCCER – THE National Football Association (FA) has prepared a E350 000 budget for the National Under 20 squad’s participation in the forthcoming Metropolitan COSAFA Youth tournament to be hosted next weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa.
FA’s CEO Frederick Mngomezulu stated yesterday that this amount covered preparations costs for the tournament that includes the squad’s camping and the two international friendly matches to be hosted in the country prior to the games in Johannesburg.
The local squad will host two international friendly matches against South Africa’s ‘Amajita’ on Sunday before rounding up their preparations with a clash against their counterparts from Botswana next Thursday.
The CEO stated that E100 000 had been set aside for the squad’s material things including tracksuits, soccer boots, playing kit and other necessities.
“Our budget, though still not complete shows that we would be spending about E350 000 for the squad, from preparations until the actual games. The squad would be starting full-time camp tomorrow at Mbabane Church Youth Centre.
“We decided to convene camp earlier for the squad because we discovered that most of the players currently writing examinations will be finishing tomorrow.
“We expect the squad to start training tomorrow morning and would then stay in camp until the day of their departure to South Africa,” Mngomezulu said.
The squad’s technical bench, headed by Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, was expected to submit the final list of players to the FA yesterday afternoon in readiness for the camp.
“We are expecting that 22 players would be reporting for camp but only 20 players would be traveling for the tournament, which means two would remain behind,” he said.
round up
Meanwhile, the National Under 20 squad would round up their preparations for the tournament with a date against their Botswana counterparts in an international friendly match slated for next Thursday at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
This game will be played on the eve of the local squad’s departure for the tournament to be hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa next weekend.
The local squad will also be squaring up against South Africa’s ‘Amajita’ in another friendly match this coming Sunday at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
Mngomezulu confirmed the games and stated that these were aimed at helping the local squad prepare adequately for the tournament.
“We are still tying some few loose ends regarding the game against Botswana before we confirm everything. The game against South Africa would definitely be played this Sunday but there are also some few issues we need to iron out on that match before we release full details,” he said.
He indicated that the arrangement was that the local squad would depart for the tournament next Friday after the game against Botswana.
On the other hand, Mngomezulu also mentioned that they were still awaiting response from the University of Pretoria (Tuks) on the release of Swazi international striker Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini for the tournament. “We have formally requested Phinda’s release from Tuks but we are still to get a response from them.
We will also be making a follow-up on that issue because we will be happy to have the player available for the friendly against Botswana,” he said.
