Track and Field event at Somhlolo
ATHLETICS – THE Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) will hold a track and field event at the Somhlolo National Stadium on Saturday to select a total of 30 athletes to represent the country in the upcoming Zone VI Under 20s Youth Games.
The games will be hosted by the country in December next year. Starting time for the track and field selection is 8:30am.
Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Organising Secretary Selby Shongwe yesterday urged all young athletes to make it to the event as he mentioned that they want to select the best squad that will in turn represent the country well during the games.
He mentioned that it was imperative for the country to perform well during the games, especially since they will be hosts.
He lamented the somewhat long break in activities, especially track and field events and highlighted that from now on activities would be in abundance.
“This is our time and we have to select the best squad that will be represent the country well during the games and reap medals for us.
Athletics has always been one of the country’s strong areas and we will have to make sure that we uphold that,” he said.
The Zone VI Games were launched by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Hlobsile Ndlovu, at the House on Fire in Malkerns and she stated clearly that she expects the country’s sportspersons to reap as many medals as possible during the games.
