MTN stalled from reducing tariffs, for now

An attempt by MTN Swaziland to reduce tariffs further has allegedly been blocked by the Swaziland Communication Commission (SCCOM), for the time being.
According to well-placed sources, the reductions in prices on some packages have been in the pipeline for some time but their implementation needs approval from the regulator which has allegedly stalled some for after October.
“MTN has been stopped from reducing roaming charges by the regulator which is largely viewed in some quarters as an attempt to disable it from putting forth competitive charges for its customers,” the highly placed source stated.
When asked whether the mobile company had indeed applied for reduction in tariffs, SCCOM General Manager Strategy and Economic Regulation Lindiwe Dlamini said, “I don’t talk about operations or applications as regulator.”
Adding, she confirmed that her office dealt with applications for price changes in any form be they for promotions or tariffs, they need to be lodged through application.
