‘We are prepared for stronger SIHLANGU’

SOCCER – Zambia national team coach Wedson Nyirenda says they have come prepared for the stronger Swaziland side in the CHAN qualifiers.

The Zambian squad will take on Sihlangu Semnikati in the first leg encounter of the CHAN 2018 qualifier at the Somhlolo National Stadium tomorrow.  Interviewed upon their arrival at the Lugogo Sun Hotel yesterday, the coach, speaking through his assistant Aggrey Chiyangi, said they were aware of the threat posed by Swaziland going into this game

“We have prepared for the game because we know that our opponents will be parading a stronger team unlike the one they had in the COSAFA Cup where they missed most of their key players and therefore we need to fight,” he said.

He said their main goal was to qualify for the finals slated for Kenya next year. He said as a result, they could not afford any slip ups against the Pieter De Jongh led troops when they meet on the artificial turf.  “Our main goal is to qualify for the CHAN hence cannot afford to lose any match be it home or away. So this is a must win game for us no matter what,” he said. Nyirenda further explained the absence of their top striker Fwayo Tembo who has been ruled out for the qualifier.  “The striker has commitments back home and we couldn’t bring him to Swaziland as we felt he needed the break, otherwise he is still part and parcel of the team,” he said.  ‘Chipolopolo’ vice captain Taonga Bwembya shared the same sentiment with his coach, saying they were in the country to  win.   We are in Swaziland to collect points and are not under any pressure as we have done the necessary preparations for the match. We will put up a brave fight throughout 90 minutes of football,” he said.

The two countries will be looking to cement a place in the finals of the competition to be hosted by Kenya next year.
